Trying to lose ten pounds?

The Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is a very popular diet and as far as I am concerned it is effective, meaning you are going to lose those pounds if you follow it, but I find it very difficult to follow for a long time.

It’s based on high protein consumption, paying no attention to fat intake (meaning it is OK to eat bacon). What other diet allows you to eat bacon and fatty steaks?

Carbohydrates are not allowed (potatoes, rice, bread, most fruits) and that's what I found the most difficult about the diet.

Things that are good about are as follows:

  • Easy to go out to dinner. Just skip the bread, and order steak and creamed spinach.
  • Menus are not hard to prepare. Basically, animal proteins (beef, pork, chicken, fish, etc) and low carb vegetables (lettuce, spinach, asparagus, zucchini, etc)
  • Weight drops fast (you might be able to get into that party dress in two weeks)

Things I didn’t like about it:

  • You are not allowed any bread, rice, potatoes, sweets, most fruits,
  • and lots of other vegetables.
  • I was hungry most of the time.
  • Not enough variety. =====================================

    The Atkins Nutritional Approach™, as the Atkins diet is commonly known, has worked for several people with weight problems, although the opinion about its efficacy, especially in the long term, is divided among the medical community. Considerable controversy surrounds the program. Most other diets, and there are numberless of them out there, follow the principle of avoiding high-fat foods. But the Atkins diet allows things like red meat, bacon, butter, cheese, eggs and so on, which are all high in fat. Yet, to the utter surprise of everyone who repose their trust in the tried and tested low-fat diets, the Atkins diet works.

    The reason is rather simple. The Atkins diet limits the consumption of foods containing large amounts of carbohydrates, such as rice, pasta, white bread, cereal and sugar. Your body burns its excess fat during a process consisting of four phases, which the late Dr. Robert Atkins developed. In his book Dr.Atkins New Diet Revolution, published in 1972, he advised dieters to cut down on only carbohydrates, not both fats and carbohydrates as had been the practice followed until then. ...Continued

    The Atkins diet claims you will lose weight by cutting out carbs and eating more meat. The diet is based on the majority of those who are overweight do in fact eat too many carbohydrates in their diet. By cutting down on the carb's that you eat daily and increasing the amount of fat and protein then the body will lose more weight as it burns off the stored body fat much more efficiently.

    The Atkins diet relies on the person eating a diet that relies heavily on proteins and fat. The basis of the diet includes red meat, fish, which included any kind of shellfish, chicken, cheeses and you are able to cook with butter if you wish - not bad for a diet...Continued
